Choosing Eve over God...

I have a observation. That is that the Devil rarely engages in a frontal attack on man. Re-read Genesis Chapter 3. It says that the Devil, in the form of a serpent spoke to Eve and she saw that the fruit was desirable and ate. Then she gave some to Adam and he ate. Then, after Adam ate it says that immediately their eyes were opened....after Adam ate. Their eyes were not opened until Adam followed Eve into sin.

It is interesting in that the Devil didn't speak directly to Adam. He spoke to Eve it seems while she was separated from Adam and alone. And then Eve came to Adam and presented him with the opportunity to join her in her sin. Adam was given authority over this world and because of the God's order of authority and responsibility, the result of Eve's sin wasn't consummated so to speak until Adam joined her. When she presented him with the fruit Adam had to make a conscious choice to obey God or join Eve and this is crucial to understand because as men who struggle with sexual purity or any other addiction for that matter it is, in essence the same decision we are faced with everyday.

When Eve presented herself before Adam he knew that Eve had sinned and that there would be a penalty for that ...death. God had told that that if they ate of the tree they would surely die. Here is Eve, his beautiful wife, his soul mate so to speak and she has disobeyed God. If Adam doesn't join her he surely thought that she would be punished with death and that he would be left alone again to tend the garden by himself. He loved Eve. In fact, his choice was really between who was more important to him, Eve or God. Adam chose to put Eve in a higher position and priority in his life than his creator.

Part of me says "what a dolt!' but is this not the very thing we do when we put our worldly pleasures (take your pick), material possessions, work, careers, our families or our children ahead of God in our lives?

This is the the temptation of this life and the question needs to be addressed in our quiet time with God each and every day. "Holy Spirit, is there ANYTHING I have placed between you and me?"

1. Have you ever thought about Adam and Eve's stumble in this way?

2. What stands out to you?

3. When you come before God and ask Him if you are placing anything above Him, what do you hear Him say?

4. If God revealed something to you. Are you prepared to rearrange your priorities? Really?

Fight! Every. Day.
