Sin X...

In Romans chapter 7 Paul talks about this struggle with devotional this morning brought out the that Paul never names the sins he struggles with specifically. Only that he is powerless to resist sin, doing the things he does not want to do to the point that he proclaims "Oh the wretched man that I am!"

As I thought about this on my way to work I realized that our specific sins are the symptom of the bigger problem. Sin is only the outward evidence of the web of sin that is woven into our entire being. We tend to focus on "the" sin, not the sin nature...we tend to think "I would be a pretty fine Christian specimen if it wasn't for Sin X in my life" and so we focus on asking God to remove sin X. Sin X isn't the problem. The tap root of our sin nature that winds around our heart and soul is the problem! This is what I believe Paul realized that caused him to say "Oh the wretched man that I am!"

I think this may be why our prayers for deliverance are not always answered....we are focusing on the symptom and God wants us to fall before him in realization that sin X is minor compared to our entire sin nature....that with out his power and deliverance of our entire natures nothing good dwells in us.

Questions or thought:

  1. Do you measure your"sinfulness" by the word of God or the culture around you?

  2. What is "the sin" you would identify in your life?

  3. Have you been praying for God to help you sin less or change your heart?

Fight! Every. Day.
