The Vines Duty...
Since I first grew out of the vine, I have spent years and years, and all I have done is just to rest in the vine. When the time of Spring came I had no anxious thought or care. The vine began to pour it's sap into me, and to give the bud and the leaf. And when summer came, I had no care; and in the great heat, I trusted the vine to bring moisture to keep me fresh. And in the time of harvest, when the owner came to pluck the grapes, I had no care. If there was anything in the grapes not good, the owner never blamed the branch; the branch was always on the vine....
In Thy strong hand I lay me down, So shall the work be done; for who can work so wonderfully
as the Almighty one? (Andrew Murray, Absolute Surrender)
Commentary: We often know in our hearts that we aren't producing the "fruit" that God expects from us... it could be that it is winter in our lives and the branch feels and looks dead, or it may be spring and we feel the life of God beginning to surge thru us (but still no fruit), or it may be summer and the withering sun is beating upon us and what fruit we have budding is in peril of dying....our soul position is to stay connected to the vine...do not worry about the fruit, that is the vine's concern.
Our task as men of God is to keep our eyes on Jesus and continually looking to Him for care and feeding of our relationship with him. We have the choice to make decisions that will move us closer or further away from Him each day but it is difficult to to get to far astray if we don't take our eyes from Him.
1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord (seeking him), knowing that your toil (struggle) is not in vain.
James 5:7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.
Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
